Ween- La Cucaracha

Formed in 1984 the rock duo of Dean and Gene
Ween otherwise known as Ween are known for their oddball off the wall genre hopping music. Besides their minor college radio hit "Push The Little Daises" Ween has remained relatively under the radar of mainstream music. But throughout the years Ween has gained notoriety within the festival circuit and among jam-band fans thanks to self proclaimed Ween fan Trey Anastasio who covered Ween's "Roses Are Free" a number of times while in Phish. La Cucaracha is their first full length album since 2003's Quebec. La Cucaracha has all the classic Ween sounds. From the bizarre mariachi sounds of the opening track"Fiesta" to the reggae flavor of "The Fruit Man" to the country hoedown of "Learnin' to Love", Ween successfully leaves no genre left untouched. Theres horns and even a Vocoder. At times La Cucaracha sounds slow with songs like "Your Party" which has a sort of Maroon- era Barenaked Ladies vibe and the waltzing sound of "Lullaby." But certainly no one ever said Ween wasn't creative and this album certainly reflects that, all the elements that make Ween the band that they are here, but its nothing new, if your a fan you'll want this album. But those who are new to the world of Ween are better off with the albums The Mollusk and Quebec.
